Do you have a story and photo you would like to share

about your  OPR adopted pup or dog?  We're looking for some laughs, maybe some tears, how they have changed your life, how they have touched your heart.  We will post your photo on our home page and story to the Your OPR Adoption Story page to share with all of our visitors.  Maybe, just maybe, you'll inspire someone to share their life with a homeless dog. Please send a photo and your story to: OhioPuppyRescue@aol.com

           OPR Spay/Neuter Project!

2009 was a year of great success and impact on the community through Ohio Puppy Rescue. We created the OPR Spay/Neuter Fund.  This is currently a collaboration with animal agencies in Pike and Scioto Counties, as well as Shawnee Animal Hospital, to sponsor spay and neuters for those less fortunate.  In order to continue our efforts in supporting our community and the pet over population, additional funding is required.  We need continuous and generous donations in order to sustain our life-changing work into 2010 and future years.  Please consider a donation to enable our work to continue! Donations can be made by adopting one of our wonderful rescues or directly through PayPal If you wish to send a check, please contact us via email for a mailing address.

OPR Mission Statement

The mission of OPR:

The rescue, care and adoption of unwanted and homeless dogs.  Continued education of the general public on the importance of spaying/neutering, positive training methods, exercise and appropriate medical treatment with humane care.

To work hand and hand with other ethical rescue groups promoting good working relationships to save more lives.

So that we can:

Continue our passion that enables small miracles for the dogs and the people who love them.

Ohio Puppy Rescues' purpose is to rescue homeless dogs and Puppy Mill survivors to be adopted to properly matched families through a multi-step adoption process including dog training and education of the families to ensure permanent placement.

Our History:
      • OhioPuppy Rescue (OPR) was established in 2008 with the primary focus in the rescue and fostering of pregnant females, mother's with new litters and motherless litters that have been turned into shelters or found on the streets and puppy mill survivors. Our belief is that a dog who has proper training along with an adoptive families education of proper care creates the foundation for permanent placement.

      • 2008 Adoptions:  45
      • 2009 Adoptions:  113

Accomplishments

  • 158 wonderful puppies and dogs to wonderful forever homes.  With those 158 adoptions, there are 158 plus people out there educating others on the need to adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue.
  • We founded the Ohio Puppy Rescue Spay/Neuter Fund where we work with Pikes Friends, Pike Co. Humane Association and Shawnee Animal Hospital to provide free spay and neutering.
  • We work with Pilots N Paws volunteer pilots who assist with rescue efforts throughout the country.
  • We supported and celebrated the passing of PA House Bill 2525 which was established to improve the lives of dogs living in puppy mills.
  • We saw Oprah stand up and educate others on the need to adopt a shelter dog and boycott stores selling puppies.

What still needs to be accomplished?

  • Continue educating the public why spaying and neutering is essential in saving the lives of 3 to 4 million pets per year from being euthanized each year.
  • Have Ohio become one of the "puppy-free pet store" states.
  • Continue and grow our relationship with shelters to rescue dogs in their care and decrease the number of pets euthanized.
  • Find a cure for parvo and distemper
  • End the use of gas chambers for euthanizing pets in southern shelters
  • Continue to pressure state officials to enforce laws protecting animals in mills and shelters.
